The Niles Library

Niles Library Fans,

The Niles Library is back to one day of service per week. The new hours at Niles library are Tuesdays, 10:00-5:00, starting September 5, 2006. Funding for Thursday hours from January 8th, 2004 through fiscal year 2005/06 were provided by the Niles Library Fund (a grass roots fundraising effort) and a generous matching grant to the Alameda County Library Foundation from Fremont Bank.

The depth and continuity of the Community's efforts to support the Niles library attracted The Fremont Bank's attention and its support. Niles resident Wendy Winsted started the Niles Library Fund in 1999 encouraging local residents to give toward open hours at the library. Community members responded to the cause and have been giving to the fund ever since.

Every little bit helps – You can donate to the Niles Library Fund by sending a check payable to "Alameda County Library Foundation" with “Niles” in the memo field to Alameda County Library Foundation 2450 Stevenson Blvd. Fremont CA 94538.

Could you volunteer at the Niles Library?
contact Sally Kusalo 795-2626 skusalo@aclibrary.org

To those of you who have continued to give to the Niles Library Fund over the past several years, Thank-you! Your donations continue to make a difference in the community. The doors re-opened on Thursdays in 2004/2005 because of your continuing support. Let's get them openened back up.

Be A Train of Lights Golden Spiker!
Howdy Niles, Spikers, & Homies

All 2007 Holiday Trains regular tickets sales are SOLD OUT

The Niles Rides take place on: Dec 1 & 2, Dec 8 & 9, or Dec 15 & 16. Those
are Sat and Sun eves only, first three weekends of December.

Our own little Niles trains seat 102 passengers, vs Sunol's 325. The departure
times vary a tiny bit from Sunol's - I think they are at 4:15 and 6:45. Both are
roundtrip to Sunol and back, and you'll pass the long Sunol Train in the
middle of the Canyon somewhere. And most the Niles runs will feature an
actual steam engine (vs. Deisel for Sunol)

FOR NILES TRAIN OF LIGHTS GOLDEN SPIKERS:

If you're a Golden Spike Volunteer, Docent coordinator, Michael McNevin has been
charged with handling 100 tickets,
for sale to the GS Volunteers who help with a shift on any one of the Niles Dec
Train of Lights nights. Beat the rush by volunteering - Michael can sell two tickets to anyone who
takes a shift. He's pairing folks up at the posts, so perhaps you and a spiker
spouse or family member over 18 could take a shift together and watch the
trains, and buy yourself 4 tickets on one of the Niles TOL trains. Pick your shift,
then pick the train you want to ride (while they last).
